15 Celebrities With Serious Anger Management Issues

Quick Links

The perfectly reconstructed noses, golden spray tans, and blindingly white capped teeth are a good cover for what some Hollywood stars are hiding…Serious anger management issues. In a technology-ruled age like this, most people have cell phones with cameras at-the-ready so it’s not just paparazzi that the celebs have to watch out for anymore. A normally reputable actor can go from A-list to D (as in “Damage” control) in one heated moment.

There are the verbal rants (think Seinfeld’s Michael Richards going off on a racist rant during a stand-up routine), domestic disputes (Bobby Brown and Whitney, Tommy Lee and Pam Anderson…), and the ever-increasing physical altercations with celebrity reporters and photographers. A smashed camera here, a nasty voicemail there, and we begin to see that in fact Hollywood isn’t all glitz and glamour after-all. While some stars are able to find their way back after public embarrassment, others never quite get back to where their careers were pre-meltdown.

15. Mel Gibson

Mel Gibson was a major movie star in the 80s, 90s, and into the millennium with hits like the Lethal Weapon franchise, Braveheart, The Patriot, and Signs. Fans couldn’t get enough of the family man that was so spiritual he built his own private church for $37 million. But something started to go wrong with Gibson in July 2006 when he was arrested for drunk driving and during the arrest, insists Jews are to blame for all the wars in the world. Shortly after, he separated from his wife of 31 years, Robyn, and things continued to spiral downwards from there. Gibson eventually got involved with Oksana Grigorieva and had a child, Lucia. In 2010, Grigorieva sustained a black eye and broken teeth after a dispute with Gibson, who later that year was heard in a series of tapes using racial slurs. Since this time, Gibson has tried to make a comeback with little success.

14. Britney Spears

Britney Spears was a pop icon in the 90s who has gone through some tough times, but has steadily been making a strong comeback since her low-point in 2007. Remember her tumultuous past which includes spontaneous head shaving, weight fluctuations, reports of drug abuse and mental illness, and run-ins with the paparazzi? Ms. Spears attacked a photographer’s SUV with an umbrella and has been caught on-camera taunting paparazzi with comments that they are gay, fat, and other names we can’t repeat on this site. Apparently the singer has a fiercely devoted fan base, because she’s back and hotter than ever with impressive ticket sales for her 2016 Las Vegas Piece of Me tour.

13. Russell Crowe

Russell Crowe is known for being a strong leading man in films like Gladiator, Robin Hood and A Beautiful Mind. He’s proved to be a solid actor and even won an Oscar (Gladiator). While no one questions his acting talent, unfortunately Crowe has gained a reputation over the years as a real hothead. In 2005, Crowe assaulted a hotel clerk when, at 4am, he couldn’t get a call through to his (then) wife in Australia. The New Zealander has angrily confronted fans trying to take his picture, saying “How dare you take my picture? Who gave you permission?” He’s insulted interviewers and been seen pinning director Malcolm Gerrie to a wall and threatening, “I’ll make sure you never work in Hollywood.” It seems Crowe needs some anger management counseling because throughout the years, the difficult-to-work-with stories keep piling up.

12. Emma Roberts

Emma Roberts often plays a bitchy character in movies and on television. Whether it’s her roles in American Horror Story and Scream Queens, or the Jimmy Fallon interview where she brags she can teach a master’s class in “bitch face”, we’re left wondering how much acting is really going on here. But it was the 2013 fight she had with (then) boyfriend Evan Peters when she was arrested for domestic violence that proved the famous niece of Julia Roberts has a genuine temper. Peters had a bloody nose and a bitemark on him when police were called to the scene.

11. Tommy Lee

Tommy Lee, the former Motley Crue drummer is known for many things. There’s the sex tape he made of his honeymoon with Pamela Anderson, the tattoos, the reality show, and getting punched by Kid Rock at the 2007 Video Music Awards. Lee is clearly a loose cannon though, with stories of him mentally and physically abusing his sons, to threatening Kid Rock when he was dating and married to Anderson. In 1998 a judge (Lawrence J. Mira) said this to Lee at sentencing: "What I see here is a very clear--very disturbing, in my judgment--pattern of conduct in which otherwise resolvable matters are handled by violence. You do it whether it's a family member or a third party. That's intolerable in any kind of civilized society." In 2016, all four Motley Crue band members signed a “cessation of touring” agreement legally forbidding them to ever tour again. Fans will have to wait and see what’s next for Lee.

10. Lindsay Lohan

Lindsay Lohan’s timeline of trouble is too long to report here, but let’s just do a quick recap. There was the trouble on the set of Georgia Rule where Lohan was called out on her partying and constant tardiness, the rehabs, drunk driving and drug possession arrests, court appearances, and strange public relationships and break-ups. If that wasn’t enough, Lohan was in a bar fight in 2012 where she punched a woman for supposedly stealing her sister’s purse. Once again arrested, even this didn’t provide the much-needed wake-up call for Lohan. On March 18, 2013, Lohan was back in court to face the three misdemeanor charges in connection to her June 2013 car crash on the Pacific Coast Highway — reckless driving, lying to police and obstructing officers from performing their duties. Did we mention the physical altercations with girlfriend Samantha Ronsen and also Lohan’s mother, Dina Lohan? Only time will Tell if Lindsay Lohan will stage a comeback and be able to say she’s finally decided to clean up her act.

9. Christian Bale

In any conversation about Christian Bale, his 2009 on-set tirade is bound to come up. During the filming of Terminator Salvation, the director of photography made the grave mistake of walking past the actor’s eyeline, and a five-minute rant of profanity, insults, and overall shockingly disrespectful comments ensued. Lucky for anyone wanting details this audio can still be heard all over the internet. The actor later apologized publicly, but for most of us it forever changed the way fans view Bale. He went on to make The Dark Knight Rises, Out of the Furnace and American Hustle, in which he did a convincing job on all these films. But fans are left to wonder, if the actor would lose it like this during filming (eh, recording) then what’s he like in private?

8. Shannen Doherty

Shannen Doherty was a child actor in Little House on the Prairie and in the Sarah Jessica Parker film, Girls Just Wanna Have Fun, but it was Beverly Hills 90210 that made the actress a bonafide star. After a few seasons and a lot of on-set turmoil with fellow actors and crew, Doherty left 90210 and headed over to join the cast of Charmed where she also had trouble playing nicely with others. Reported scuffles with Alyssa Milano and Tori Spelling gave Doherty a very bad reputation for being impossible to work with on set. Doherty even had a restraining order filed against her by former fiance, Dean Factor in 1993 when she threatened to shoot him. In the latest Shannen Doherty news, fans have learned that the star is fighting breast cancer. Maybe this will help settle down the former “It Girl” long enough to heal and possibly find her way back to a starring role on a hit series.

7. Chris Brown

Chris Brown is a musically gifted entertainer with smash hits like 'Kiss, Kiss', 'No Air' and 'With You'. The singer can’t seem to stay out of trouble in his personal life with everything from bar fights to difficult interviews to severe domestic assault charges. In 2009, Brown beat pop star Rhianna severely in a rented Lamborghini. He went on to walk out of a Good Morning America interview with Robin Roberts and destroy furniture in the dressing room. A public bar fight with hip-hop rival Drake cost Brown a hefty lawsuit. Most recently, the singer took to Instagram to threaten model Tyson Beckford after he posted a picture of himself with Karrueche Tran, Brown’s ex-girlfriend. Brown continues to be given more chances at success, but if one thing is going to end his career it would appear to be his crazy temper.

6. Naomi Campbell

Naomi Campbell had her peak of fame in the 90s as a supermodel and has also tried her hand at acting, singing and a perfume line. Despite her unique look and obvious talent, it is her fiery temper that tends to come to mind at the mention of her name. Known for bouts of physical and verbal attacks on other models, a maid and even police, Campbell isn’t afraid to unleash on anyone who crosses her. She’s been ordered to anger management classes and community service and has been sued for her violent outbursts. The former model does have a softer side, being active in charities that help children in Africa, provide relief to Hurricane Katrina victims, and fighting poverty in Brazil.

5. Sean Connery

Best known for his turns as Bond, James Bond in the 007 franchise, Sean Connery is a rags-to-riches story. The Scottish actor grew up poor in Fountainbridge, Edinburg before rising to fame in America. Connery has continued to be frugal, not springing for chauffeurs or secretaries, as he’s said he wants to keep the money he’s earned. He is notorious for not signing autographs because he doesn’t make money off them. But Connery makes the list, not for his talent or his miserly ways, but for his stance on women. He is quoted as saying that if a woman deserves to be hit, well then, so be it, just hit her with an open hand rather than a clenched fist. When Barbara Walters gave the actor a chance to clarify his comments in an interview, he simply said, “I haven’t changed my opinion.”

4. Elin Nordegren

Elin Nordegren is the ex-wife of famed golfer Tiger Woods. The couple married in 2004 and had two sons together before a very public, messy divorce in 2010. Woods sordid past came to light and when the public learned of his sex addiction and numerous affairs during marriage, Nordegren reportedly attacked the pro-golfer with one of his clubs. The marriage was over, Woods was seeking in sex rehab, and the couple have both moved on. Word to the wise: If you’re in a relationship with Nordegren, don’t let her find texts from other women in your phone.

3. Bobby Brown

Bobby Brown and Whitney Houston had a 15-year love-hate relationship that produced one daughter, the now deceased Bobbi Kristina Brown. Drugs, domestic violence and infidelity rumors plagued the famous marriage and made the couple regulars in the tabloids. Bobby Brown, at his worst, struck Houston, spray painted evil eyes all over their home, and cut the heads off all of Houston’s photographs. The couple mended ways before Houston’s death, but never got back together. Houston had a tearful interview with Oprah in 2009 where she spoke candidly about the domestic abuse she suffered during her marriage.

2. Alec Baldwin

Alec Baldwin is known for two things: His acting and his temper. Few would argue that Baldwin is a hot mess and always a sideways glance or paparazzi comment away from major meltdown. Baldwin has a solid acting portfolio with acclaimed hits such as Glengarry Glenn Ross, Beetlejuice and The Departed, and television success with hit shows like Will & Grace and 30 Rock. It’s his anger that makes the biggest headlines. Whether it was the mean voicemail rant against (then) eleven year old daughter, Ireland, where he called her “a rude little pig” or the physical altercations with paparazzi, and verbal rants against nearly everyone in Hollywood, Baldwin is a truly loose cannon.

1. Sean Penn

Sean Penn is arguably one of the best actors alive today. He has been putting out solid work since the 80s and continues to be nominated for awards and offered key parts. Penn’s temper is what he’s most known for and that makes him number one on this list. From his physical abuse of (then) wife, Madonna in 1989 during their four-year marriage, to numerous run-ins with photographers, interviewers and even kicking a paparazzo in 2010, Penn has proved that he can’t keep his anger in check. Prone to verbal rants during interviews and in newspapers, this actor has a growing list of enemies in Hollywood. His recent interview with El Chapo didn’t help matters, nor did his racist joke at the 2015 Academy Awards show.
