15 Facts About The Women Of Deadpool That Fans Should Know

Quick Links
May 18th, Wade Wilson/Deadpool will once again be on the big screen in Deadpool 2. This sequel was an obvious choice to make considering the box office success of the first film. Costing $58 million to make, it grossed $364 million domestically and $783 million worldwide, making it the highest grossing R-rated film of all time. A third installment has already been announced. With the sequel, we will be introduced to new characters and see more of some of the characters we met in the first film. Like most Marvel and other superhero films, the entire list of characters that we will appear in the film has been kept hush hush.
One thing for sure is that those in the inner circle of Deadpool are not to be messed with. The ladies of Deadpool aren't the girl's next door and can take care of themselves and save the day against big bads. The characters that are confirmed for Deadpool 2 are, Vanessa Carlysle, Domino, Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Blind Al, Zeitgeist, Bedlam, Shatterstar, and of course Cable. Zeitgeist, Bedlam, Shatterstar, and Domino are new to the big screen and Deadpool's team of mercs. Cable is also making his first appearance as the villain in the sequel based on the trailers. Whether the film sticks to the comic-book versions of the characters is yet to be seen for the new crew. The first film had to set up the character of Deadpool and give the backstory of Wade Wilson. With this film, they can further venture into the other characters and have fun with the scenarios they find themselves in. We're sure that it will be filled with hilarious jabs, though more than likely containing language that we can't write here.
Vanessa Carlysle
Played by actress Morena Baccarin, "Vanessa Carlysle" will once again be on the big screen in Deadpool 2. In the first film, she was Wade Wilson's love interest and the two became engaged. Wade aka Deadpool had to save her from the villain in the first film. The character Vanessa is tough in her own right. Fans of the comics are eager to see if the film brings her mutant side out. In the comics, Vanessa Carlysle, becomes known as "Copycat".
Copycat has abilities that allow her to change her physical appearance. She can camouflage herself against backgrounds to hide from the bad guys. She can become any person or animal she wants. Her abilities are so off the charts that when she morphs into another mutant, she also can emulate their superpowers.
Copycat has the ability to replicate others down to a genetic level. Vanessa Carlysle first appeared in the comics in 1991. Her parents had kicked her out for being a mutant and she finds herself becoming a night worker in Boston. She meets and falls for Wade Wilson. In the comics, she actually morphs into Domino for quite some time and becomes a motherly figure for the New Mutants.
It is unclear at this time whether or not we will see Copycat in Deadpool 2. We think it would be pretty cool though if we did.
Domino
In the comic books, Domino is the result of a top-secret government breeding program known as "Project: Armageddon". The goal of the project was to create the perfect weapon and genetically engineered soldiers. Domino was the only test subject to survive but her powers were not what those heading the project desired.
Domino's mutant powers revolve around good luck. She can subconsciously and psionically affect the probabilities and make things work in her favor against her enemies. She is highly skilled in hand-to-hand combat and martial arts. Domino becomes a mercenary and joins a group called the "Six Pack" where she meets Cable. Her character has appeared in over 1,700 comic book issues.
For the role of Domino, actress Zazie Beetz was able to wear her hair naturally for the part. Her hair is bold and strong as is her character. In the film, her character has yet to gain the psionic ability to control her powers. Instead, they manifest when she is in danger.
We can't wait to see the character Domino in Deadpool 2. From what we have seen in the trailers for the film, Domino dishes the sass right back to Deadpool. Her abilities of probability manipulation should make for some pretty cool and interesting scenes.
Negasonic Teenage Warhead
Negasonic Teenage Warhead is a mouthful of a character name and she has the personality to boot. Her appearance in the first Deadpool film was far different from that in the comics, which is a good departure. Since the success of the movie, the character has changed visually in the comics to more closely match her from the film. The Warhead of the comics could give the girl from The Ring a run for her money in creepy factor.
The character was created in 2001 and appeared in New X-Men issue 115. She is a teenager with a gothic appearance and the ability to foresee horrible events, like the death of herself and others.
She was killed in an attack along with millions of other mutants on Genosha. An event that she knew would happen. She was resurrected and gained additional powers. She was now able to reach into the minds of others. In 2016, her character was reinvented with her new film look and attitude in the pages of Deadpool & The Mercs for Money Vol. 2 issue 1.
In the first Deadpool film, her character did not have the same abilities as the comics and instead was able to create massive explosions that radiate from her body. One thing is for sure, she is not a teen that you'd want to mess with.
Blind Al
Blind Al was first introduced in Deadpool Volume 1 issue 1 in 1997. Al is the roommate of Wade Wilson/Deadpool. She is a former British Intelligence operative. In the comics, it was revealed that she even dated Captain America in the 1940s. Blind Al met Deadpool when he was hired to take her out, but kidnapped her instead. He kept her prisoner and she became a sort of mother figure to him. Al has appeared in 91 issues.
In the comics, Deadpool and Blind Al relentlessly played practical jokes on each other. At one-point Blind Al teamed up with some of Wade's friends to take out revenge on him for being such a lousy friend.
She shot at Deadpool by tying a string from her gun to the dog, who would aim it for her by pulling in the direction of Wade. The gun however misfired and their plan for vengeance ended.
Blind Al is able to sling insults and stand up to Deadpool. Most of her quips make Deadpool's wisecracking look like child's play. In the film version of Blind Al, Deadpool meets her through an ad on Craigslist. They both have an obsession with IKEA furniture, which Wade always insists she put together herself even though she is blind.
Domino - Original Member of X-Force but there's a catch
In the comics, Domino is one of the first members of Cable's X-Force, but there's a catch. It is actually Copycat who has taken on the persona of Domino. No one on the team suspects anything. As Domino, Copycat becomes a motherly figure to the New Mutants and the X-Force. She becomes second in command to Cable. She also becomes his closest friend.
Copycat had at first infiltrated the X-Force team as Domino after being hired to destroy them. However, as time went on she began to see them as friends and could not go through with it. The truth eventually comes out and the real Domino is not too happy with Copycat for what she has done.
Through several of the story arcs in the comics, the real Domino tries to gain acceptance from the group that only new the Copycat version of Domino. Even Cable, who she becomes romantically involved with, sometimes confuses Domino's tastes for those of Copycat's. The two eventually make amends in the comics after fighting together against a big bad.
While we doubt that audiences will see any of this in Deadpool 2, it may be something that shows up in the X-Force movie.
Domino and Deadpool's Debut Together
In the comic book New Mutants #98 which was released in 1991, Deadpool made his Marvel debut. He's not the only one however, Domino also debuted in this issue. Deadpool was hired to take out Cable but Domino saves the day. Cable is surprised in the library at the X-Mansion by Deadpool, who tells him that a man named Tolliver wants Cable dead. The two fight, and before Deadpool can do any more damage, Domino stabs him in the back with three knives. Later Cable says that he "mailed" Deadpool back to Tolliver.
In the brain twister way of comics, later in the series reader's learn that Domino was actually Copycat pretending to be Domino at that time. She was sent there by Tolliver to blow up Cable and his X-Force team, while he held the real Domino prisoner.
Copycat/Domino found herself unable to complete her mission. Since Copycat and Deadpool had broken up, she probably enjoyed what she did to Deadpool a little too much. The real Domino made her first appearance through a flashback in X-Force #8 in 1992. It was shown that she actually met Cable years before the events at the mansion involving Deadpool when she was part of a group involving Cable known as Six Pack.
Surge
Actress Shioli Kutsuna will be joining Deadpool's team in the sequel. Although it has yet to be confirmed which character she is playing. Going from what we have seen in the trailers, it is a high probability that her character is "Surge". The superhero Surge is a young mutant named Noriko Ashida who was born in Tokyo, Japan. She ran away from home when her powers began to manifest at the age of 13. In the comics, it is not known how she made her way to the United States, but she was found living on the streets of Salem Center. Surge was unable to control her powers, causing X-Men member Beast to design special gauntlets that give her the ability to keep her powers in check.
Surge has the ability to absorb electricity from all sources, even the static in the air. She absorbs electricity at all times. She can discharge the electric energy she has absorbed through lightning blasts from her hands or other parts of her body. Surge can also use this energy for super-speed.
Shioli Kutsuna has appeared in a long list of Japanese films and most recently appeared in The Outsider, opposite Jared Leto. We'll have to wait and see which character she actually plays when the movie hits theaters.
Deadpool Got hitched in the Comics
Yes, that's right. Wade Wilson aka Deadpool got married in the comics but it wasn't to Vanessa. He married a succubus from a royal bloodline. Deadpool meets her when he is hired to retrieve her by Dracula. While on a train the two are accosted by the vampire hunter Blade, who plans to kill Shiklah. Blade knows that Dracula plans to marry her. After fighting off Blade the pair continues on to Paris, where Deadpool teaches her about technology including smartphones. In the catacombs under Paris, they discuss the burden of immortality.
Shiklah tells him that she feels it is a curse to watch those around her age and die. Deadpool tells her that nothing can kill him and though she is saddened by this, she feels a connection with him.
Shiklah becomes obsessed with taking over the surface world and is married to Dracula, which annulled her marriage to Wade. Wade seeks help from The Avengers and the Fantastic Four to stop her. Deadpool is unable to bring himself to kill her and instead traps her inside the coffin he first found her in. Borrowing Pym particles he shrinks her coffin and keeps it on top of his heart. He refers to her as the one bullet he couldn't dodge.
Cable's Mother is Jean Grey?
Cable's mother was a clone of Jean Grey named Madelyne Pryor. She was created by the villain Mr. Sinister. Madelyne absorbed Jean Grey's powers and abilities following Jean's death, as they were looking for her DNA to return to. Madelyne even gained some of Jean's memories. She met Scott (Cyclops) in Alaska and was surprised to see how much she looked like his deceased girlfriend. They began dating and he found it even more strange that she already knew things about him, like what his favorite breakfast was. Scott and Madelyne married and retired to Alaska to start a family and lead normal lives away from danger.
Scott was not there when Cable was born and showed no emotion towards his newborn when he returned. Cyclops was more concerned about the future of the X-Men. Scott received a call that Jean Grey was alive and he left immediately without telling Madelyne why.
Madelyne was attacked and the baby kidnapped. The X-Men saved her and took her to a hospital with Havok swearing to make what his brother did right. Eventually, she and Havok, Cyclop's brother, began a relationship. When Madelyne found out the reason for Cyclops leaving she became angry. In her last hope of revenge to Jean Grey, she took herself out knowing that Jean would feel all of the pain and experience of her death. With this Jean also gained memories of being pregnant and giving birth to Nathan (Cable). Jean and Scott (Cyclops) were raising Nathan until he was infected by the techno-organic virus.
Hope Summers
We know from the cast list on IMDB that Cable's daughter will be in Deadpool 2. We can only assume that this will be Hope, though the actress is only listed as "Cable's daughter". Hope Summers was the first mutant born after the events of Decimation. This event was where Scarlet Witch used her reality-altering powers to turn all but 198 of the world's mutants into normal humans with no powers. The minute Hope is born, Professor X's mutant-locating Cerebro explodes. This brings people to start hunting for Hope.
Cable saves the baby girl and names her Hope. He believes that she is destined to save both humankind and mutants. However, others believe that she is the mutant equivalent of the Antichrist and will kill millions in the future.
In order to keep her safe, Cable takes Hope to the future. Cable meets and marries a woman named Hope in the future and they raise the little girl together. Later his wife is taken out and Cable tells a pastor that the child's name is Hope and that she was named after her adoptive mother. Later Cable is sent on a mission by his father Cyclops to shut down an army of Nimrods in the future. They are successful on their mission but Cable dies, holding the portal open for his team members to return to the present. It causes the techno-organic virus to take over his body. He looks at Hope and then suddenly explodes.
Deadpool & Copycat
Unlike the movie, in the comics, Deadpool and Vanessa aka Copycat have been living together for two years. Things are heading towards marriage until Wade is diagnosed with cancer and tells Vanessa to leave. Wade soon became Deadpool and they started working together and Deadpool distances himself. At one point in the comics, he saves her life forcing her to absorb some of his powers to heal herself after being wounded. She was mortally injured, so Deadpool knowing what her abilities were, removed his shirt and hugged her tightly so that her body would copy his own powers of healing.
Copycat tried several times to get back together with Deadpool by pretending to be different women that wanted to date him. Later he admitted that he knew it was her all along and the two began a relationship again.
This didn't last long as she became jealous of Deadpool's friendship with a character named "Siryn", causing her to leave him. Copycat had also begun working with the Weapon X program and they enhanced her abilities. This is the same program that created Deadpool. Ignoring orders from Weapon X to kill Copycat due to some unforeseen side-effects, Deadpool tried to save her life. Copycat was unfortunately sliced to pieces by the mutant Sabertooth and died in Deadpool's arms, swearing that she always loved him.
Morena Baccarin
Returning for the same role in the sequel to Deadpool is Morena Baccarin. This Brazilian-American actress played the part of "Vanessa", Wade Wilson's love interest in the first film. Morena and her family moved to New York when she was 10 years old. She later studied at the famous Juilliard School. During her time in New York, she was active in theater and at one time was Natalie Portman's understudy. Morena moved to Los Angeles to pursue acting and quickly caught the eye of Joss Whedon, who cast her as "Inara Serra" in his short-lived cult classic television series Firefly and it's subsequent film, Serenity.
She has been in a large number of television series since then and some film roles. Morena is currently married to her Gotham co-star Ben McKenzie and the couple has one child together, a daughter. She also has a son from a previous marriage.
Morena has a lot of experience in the world of superheroes. She has been a part of CW's The Flash, Justice League Unlimited as "Black Canary", Batman: The Brave and the Bold as "Cheetah", Son of Batman as "Talia al Ghul", Gotham as "Leslie Thompkins", and of course "Vanessa" in Deadpool. The heavily DC comics cred's on her resume would perhaps make her perfect to bring another female Justice League character to the screen. Though she says that she relates more to the villains like Catwoman or Poison Ivy.
Zazie Beetz
This relatively new on the scene actress was born in Germany in 1991. Zazie was raised in uptown Manhattan and Berlin. She speaks German and English fluently and also has a bachelors degree in French. Her first credited role was that of "The Crocotta" in a short film of the same name in 2013. More recently she has been playing the character "Van" on the FX television series Atlanta. On her upcoming role in Deadpool 2 she said in an interview with Vanity Fair:
“I got the part off my chemistry read with Ryan. The stuff he comes up with on set—he’s made for this role! I play a marksman, and trained four hours a day. I don’t know how people say exercising is addictive. When I was done, I was done.”
Zazie is going to be one busy lady, according to an article in GQ: "She's in talks to star alongside Jon Hamm and Natalie Portman; to do a biopic, The Pale Blue Dot, with Kristen Stewart; to star in a thriller, with Armie Hammer and Dakota Johnston. This year she'll be Slice, an indie horror film with Chance the Rapper, and next year she'll star in a Soderbergh film."
Brianna Hildebrand
Brianna Hildebrand was born in College Station, Texas in 1996. She won the part of "Negasonic Teenage Warhead" just one year into the industry. Brianna followed that up with a couple of films and then the part of "Verity" on The Exorcist television series. Not only can this lovely lady act, she can also sing. Take a listen to her singing Camila Cabello's "Havana", that she posted to her Instagram. She does have aspirations of releasing her own music but for now, would like to focus on acting. Brianna is far different in personality from her character in Deadpool. She is bubbly and sweet, something that she says surprises fans as stated in an article with Zappos.
“People are sometimes surprised to learn that I’m nice! At conventions, they're all like, ‘Oh you're so sweet and excited to be here.’"
She continued with, "I think people sometimes forget that I'm playing a character or maybe they would prefer me to be Negasonic, which is chill too because I relate to her sometimes. But I do also suffer from RBF, so that may be why people mistake me for being rude.” One thing is for sure, Brianna Hildebrand is adorable and we loved her in the first Deadpool. We're sure that her portrayal of "Negasonic Teenage Warhead" in Deadpool 2 will be a fan favorite again.
Leslie Uggams/Blind Al
Leslie Uggams was born in New York City in 1943. Her film career spans decades, beginning in 1962. She began performing on stage when she was only 6 years old. She started performing at the Apollo when she was 9 years old and landed a record deal at 15. One of her most notable television roles was that of "Kizzy Reynolds" in the award-winning mini-series Roots in 1977. Leslie was nominated for a Golden Globe and an Emmy for her performance. She is also a talented singer and attended Juilliard. Leslie met her husband while she was performing in Sydney, and they married in 1965 and have two children.

We can't wait to see her again as "Blind Al" in Deadpool 2.
