Kim Kardashian Launches New Energy Drink With Alani Nu, But The Idea Could Tank
Kim Kardashian has put her face on many products, from perfume to shapewear, and she’s now got her own energy drink. However, the beverage is already causing controversy.
Last week, Kim announced on Instagram she was partnering with wellness brand Alani Nu to launch a limited-edition energy drink, Kimade.
"We are thrilled to collaborate with Kim, who is such an amazing female powerhouse and entrepreneur," Alani Nu’s’ founder Katy Hearn stated in a press release. "Kim's dedication to both her family and creating innovative brands perfectly align with our brand values, making this partnership such a natural fit. We are so excited for everyone to try this flavor, which we know is going to be one of our best yet!"
Unfortunately, the reaction to Kim’s energy drink hasn’t been wholly positive. For example, some of the comments on the Instagram post criticized Kim for backing anything she thinks will make money.
"I feel like this collab would’ve made more sense for Khloe," one comment said. Another added, "The fact that Kim K will do anything to stay relevant!"
Other comments directly called out Alani Nu for partnering with the reality star. "Bad choice on this one @alaninutrition," one person wrote.
There’s also been concern about the high caffeine content in Kim’s drink. The Strawberry Lemonade flavor contains 200mg of caffeine in its 12-ounce can, which is higher than Redbull and Monster energy drinks.
In fact, Kimade has just as much caffeine as Logan Paul’s new energy drink, Prime, which has even gotten the attention of the Senate, since it’s mainly marketed to children.
Senator Chuck Schumer wrote a letter for the FDA calling for it to investigate the safety of Prime. Many physicians have serious concern for Prime, and I write to specifically urge your agency to investigate Prime for its claims, marketing and caffeine content,” he wrote.
As per FDA recommendations, the average adult shouldn’t exceed more than 400mg of caffeine in a day. This is equivalent to four cups of coffee or two Prime and Kimade energy drinks.
With a net worth of $1.2 billion, there’s no denying that Kim has a variety of successful projects to her name, especially her SKIMS brand, which became a billion-dollar business within only a few years of launching.
So, while Kim’s collaboration with Alani Nu may be taking flack, that doesn’t mean it won’t be a financial success like her other products, but only time will tell.
